The final meeting of the second phase of the PPRD East 2 Program took place in Ukraine

On February 6, the final fifth meeting of the National Advisory Group (NAG) of the Prevention, Preparedness and Response Program for Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership countries of the RPRD East 2 took place in Kyiv.

The results of the second phase of the Program were summed up at the meeting; the State Emergency Service of Ukraine is serving as the beneficiary of this Program in Ukraine. The program on prevention, preparedness and response to natural and man-made disasters in the countries of the Eastern Partnership is a flagship initiative funded by the European Union aimed at improving the ability of the countries of the Eastern Partnership to manage disaster risks, as well as improve the level of protection of the population of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine from the negative consequences of natural and man-made disasters.

The first phase of the Program lasted from December 2010 to September 2014. The second phase has begun in December 2014 and will end in May 2019.

On February 6, the Head of Cooperation Program of the EU-Ukraine Delegation Stefan Schleuning, the Deputy Head of the SESU Ruslan Biloshytskyi, the Head of the PPRD East 2 Expert Group Sergey Anagnosti, the National Program Coordinator in Ukraine Nazar Boryshkevych, experts of the SESU and PRRD East 2, representatives of the central executive bodies, the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and others took part in the final meeting.

During his greeting speech, the Deputy Head of the SESU Ruslan Biloshytskyi brought into focus that the SES of Ukraine confidently follows the European integration state vector and thanks to effective state assistance and close cooperation with foreign partners, it constantly strengthens the potential of the Rescue Service.

In this context Ruslan Biloshytskyi also noted the long-term cooperation of the SESU with the EU Program PPRD East 2.

The participation in the exercises and trainings of the Project has provided an opportunity to increase the professional level and experience of Ukrainian experts in many areas related to prevention, preparedness and response to natural and man-made disasters”, - said Biloshytskyi. He also pointed out that the main event in the second phase of the Project was holding of large-scale field exercise MOLDEX 2017 in Moldova. “As you know, the Ukrainian SAR team consisting of 24 personnel and 7 vehicles successfully represented our country in international exercise and team representatives will share their experiences with us today”, - he added.

Ruslan Biloshytskyi wished all the participants further fruitful work and thanked the group of experts of the Project for their work.

During the final meeting the experts of the SESU presented the priorities in the field of civil protection, in particular, concerning to flood risk management, disaster risk assessment, volunteering in civil protection, awareness-raising at disasters that have been jointly developed in cooperation with the PPRD East 2 experts.
